Large-Scale Deployment of Tablet Computers in Public School Districts

This book is the result of Dr. Farias's research on the large-scale deployment of tablet computers in public school districts in Brazil, which took place between 2012 and 2015. During this period, K12 public schools all over the country received hundreds of thousands of mobile devices to implement new teaching methods based on the use of the equipment. Based on Grounded Theory research methodology, this study gathered information provided by educators, technicians, and educational leaders involved in the deployment process in several Brazilian cities. The data analysis made it possible to identify the main factors that can influence the likelihood of success for such an initiative, depict the relations between them, and develop a model that describes how these factors impact the deployment process. Thus, this work aims to help educators implement initiatives with similar nature and scale, allowing for a better understanding of the factors and the related phenomena involved in the mobile device deployment.
