Internal Fixation in Maxillofacial Trauma

Internal fixation of maxillofacial fractures has been the subject of discussion over past thirty years. For centuries surgeons has been attempted to provide satisfactory treatement of facial fractures.The ability to treat fracture with open reduction and internal fixation (OR/IF) has dramatically revolutionized the approach to maxillofacial fractures. The importance of the maxillofacial region is not only cosmetic; but also it's function in biting, chewing, and speaking.The purpose of the treatment of fractures is to restore proper dental occlusion and stable temporomandibular joint movement as well as the reduction of the displaced fracture.Rigid fixation of mandible fractures allows early mobilization and restoration of jaw function and airway control; improves nutritional status, speech, oral hygiene, and patient comfort; and allows early return to the workplace.The purpose of this book is to take overview of internal fixation in fractures of maxillofacial region in various situation.
