Information systems form the IT backbone of every company. As digitalization advances, information systems are increasingly taking center stage in the workplace. Front-end systems are those systems that the user “sees” and with which they interact directly (e.g., browsers, office suites). Back-end systems include CAD systems. Business partner systems are systems operated not by the company itself, but by customers, suppliers, banks, or payment service providers. The company utilizes these services, for which the partner grants it limited access to its system via an interface.

The book presents the relevant front-end, back-end, and business partner systems, as well as the ways in which users access these systems, within the context of both content and information technology.
