Implants in Medically Compromised Patients

Literature on the medical implications of dental implants is surprisingly sparse, with the need for organization. The results of this modern treatment approach, implants are different when applied to health-compromised patients, or more accurately defined, medically compromised patients. It is of the utmost importance that the dentist should consider the interaction between local and systemic factors. Even though there are statements in the implant literature such as, such as uncontrolled diabetes, bleeding disorders, a weakened immune system, or cognitive problems that interfere with postoperative care increase the risk of implant failure¿, these are un-substantiated by scientific evidence.
