High-Stakes Testing: Voices from Grade 3

In 2003, Anne Juola-Rushton traveled along the pathyway, perception, and dimensions in the world of elementary high-stakes testing. Using the qualitative methodology known as portraiture, Juola-Rushton joins science and art through the genre of inquiry. Portraiture shares some features with other qualitative research methods, and this book places portraiture within this larger field of inquiry. It was within the rawness and vulnerability of the study participants that she sought to record and interpret the experiences and perceptions of these third grade students, documenting their voices and visions - navigating their wisdom and authority on high-stakes testing. In the pages of this book, Juola-Rushton illuminates the relationship between herself, the portraitist and the subjects, the third grade students. Context is shaped through the dimensions of the authentic and gripping narratives.
