This book on disaster management and its governance is a sincere attempt to analyse the concept of disasters e.g. natural disasters or man-made disasters and how they can be aptly managed on basis of the situation in India. The book starts with an introduction focusing on the types of disasters such as cyclones, floods, earthquakes, tsunami, snow avalanches, hurricanes or tornadoes, landslides, droughts, furious rains or cloudbursts etc. The causes of disasters are manifold and can be due to rapid population growth, unplanned urbanization, large-scale deforestation, fragile physical environment, dangerous locations, unplanned buildings & infrastructure, fragile local economy, existence of a vulnerable society, Other prevalent causes of disasters usually through man-made factors are spread of epidemics or even a pandemic due to virus, bacteria, pests, fire outbreak, dangerous chemical radiations and armed conflicts due to ethnic disturbances between nations or even within a nation. Second, it also brings out the challenges of disaster management.
