GIS: Computer Based Decision Supporting Tool

GIS (Geographic Information System) is a computer-based tool for supporting decision making. For the use of GIS to be effective, it has to be made into practice by an appreciation of issues around data availability, quality and the way in which information is used in decision-making, especially under the specific conditions of different situations. This book provides a relatively brief overview of GIS which are critical to the efficient and successful application in different kinds of domains, wherein the decision needed to be very suitably performed. This book covers the conceptualization of a geographic problem and development of strategies for solving and managing them in a GIS environment. The conceptualization focuses on decomposing of GIS related issues into smaller but interconnected components. The development of strategies looks into specific GIS techniques for solving each of the smaller components so that the overall question can be addressed by using GIS.
