Gender differences in the effects of psychotropic drugs

The possibility of differences in drug sensitivity between individuals of different sexes has been suggested by many researchers. However, this phenomenon is very poorly understood in clinical and experimental settings. This is also true of psychotropic drugs. The monograph is the result of 12 years of work of the laboratory of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology of the Stavropol State Medical Academy. The book presents the results of pharmacoepidemiological studies of the use of psychotropic drugs in male and female psychiatric patients, including women with removed ovaries; experimental data on the efficacy of psychotropic drugs in male and female albino rats; and the changes in the drug activity in dependence on the fluctuations of sex hormones during the estrous cycle and at different periods after ovariectomy.
