FUTURE ORTHODONTICS

The field of orthodontics, from Angle's time to today's nanorobotic age, have evolved by leaps and bounds. There have been advances in orthodontic ideas, brackets, bonding agents, imaging systems, technology, the use of mini-implants, overall technology and biomaterials even expanding the scope of orthodontics to sleep apnea. Most advances in the orthodontic field arise from the demand for higher efficiency in terms of better, faster, and easier treatment protocols. Advances in digital technology have been extensively utilized for diagnosis, treatment planning, three-dimensional printing, appliance systems, digital storage, integration, and data retrieval. Software programs have made diagnosis and treatment planning more accurate, simpler, and less time-consuming. The perennial goals of efficient biomechanics are to obtain more controlled and faster movement using more discrete appliances. The most recent technological advances have buttressed these goals. In this book, present tenets, applications, and advances are explored along with the gaps between knowledge and practice and the possibilities to bridge them.
