Frenum is one of the most interesting yet often misunderstood anatomic structures in the oral cavity. Frenulum attachments and their impact on oral motor function and development have become topics of emerging interest within the dental community as well as various specialties of healthcare provider. An aberrant frenum has been associated with breastfeeding and bottle-feeding difficulties among newborns, limited tongue mobility and speech difficulties, malocclusion, gingival recession, speech and esthetics. Also has been found to be associated with several genetic and chromosomal conditions. As a dentist, it is necessary to correctly diagnose an aberrant frenum and must have an optimal knowledge regarding its treatment, so that management of aberrant frenum is possible timely.
