Forestry Development in Manipur

Dr Arambam Sanatomba Singh, Teacher-in-Charge, Nambol Higher Secondary School, Nambol, Manipur. The present study is a significant addition to the existing literature on the development of forests in Manipur. Its beauty lies in the fact that it is a well researched extension to the author¿s Ph.D. Thesis, Forest Economy of Manipur: Perspectives for Scientific Management, Manipur University (M.U.),2000 and his subsequent contributions to the IJAIR, the Indian Forester, Akansha publishing House, New Delhi, and the Eco-Club Bulletin of the W. Manihar Memorial Eco-Club cited above. Dr. Singh has devoted his life to the study of Forestry, Environment and Ecology for the benefit of the mankind. The book deals with policy measures for enhancing forest outputs by enlarging growing stock, introducing scientific methods of plantation and harvesting forest produces and fighting against damaging practices like shifting cultivation and wonton destruction of forest wealth by greedy contractors. It would be worth while to go through the entire text to extract the pure honey from immense hive of scientific policy actions mixed with hurdles in the way of their smooth implementation.
