Forest Dendrometry: Measuring Forest Trees

This document presents 02 chapters: Measuring instruments: In forestry, the tools to describe a tree or stand are diverse depending on their utility and the purpose of use. Dendrometric instruments are based on silviculture from which the different dendrometric characteristics of the tree and stand (diameter, height, basal area, etc.) are determined. On the other hand, there are some multiple-use instruments which thus represent the backbone of forestry in general.Tree and stand dendrometric characteristics: Dendrometryisgenerally limited to describing the characteristics of trees (diameter, height, shape, age, volume..., etc.) and stands (height, density, average volume, increment factor..., etc.).It is used as much in the field of timber harvesting and marketing as in silviculture and forest management. Dendrometry enables young apprentices to: know the tools and techniques for measuring trees, build growth models of a forest stand and determine the productivity of the stand.
