Financial Crisis and Social Work

This book focuses on the impact of financial crisis into social services and social work as a discipline. In particular, the book elaborates on the effects of financial restraints into specific European welfare systems that were affected the most and they are considered as the core of the Southern Mediterranean Welfare System. Each chapter presents the structure of the particular social welfare system, the way that social work practice is implemented and how it has been affected by the crisis. All authors are using different ways to present this specific topic thus the reader will have the opportunity to find research findings (Cyprus) on how the crisis affected both services and professionals, facts and figures (Italy, Portugal and Spain) on the cuts that were implemented and on the ethical issues that arise from the crisis for social workers (Greece). Finally the book concludes by summarising the common features of all the chapters.
