FIELD MEASUREMENT FOR DIGITAL SIGNAL

The poor weather in which signals propagate was investigated in imperative to guaranteeing high quality and capacity network coverage area in Nigerian Television broadcast network. Therefore, for more accurate design in ensuring effective coverage; parameters like field strength, channel power, received signal strength (RSS), carrier-to-noise ratio (CNR), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and path-loss were taken into consideration in order to provide an efficient and reliable coverage area with acceptable quality television (TV) services operating in the frequency range of 470MHz to 862MHz. The research aim was to investigate the impact of perturbations on digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTB) using digital video broadcasting terrestrial-second generation (DVB-T2) technology. This research was carried out using a drive test methodology with Deviser E8000A portable Spectrum Analyzer and DTTB receiver to collect data in the area under investigation. The data obtained from the field was used to establish the DTTB signal coverage, signal quality using the RSS value, determine the best prediction path-loss propagation model for Jos.
