Evolution of the relationship between the chiefdom and the political authorities

This book analyzes the question of the cohabitation of two administrative systems inherited from colonization, namely the traditional chiefdom and the political and administrative authorities in the canton of Lamordé Bittinkodji from the colonial period to the era of decentralization. The work also poses the problem of subordination, devaluation of customary law vis-à-vis modern law and the loss of the initiative of the laws that all traditional chiefs had as conservator and custodian of the custom decreed by the ancestors. . The problem of the traditional chiefdom is a permanent question and whatever the nature of the power (colonial, military, democracy) it has always had relations with these traditional chiefdoms. How did the relationship between the chiefdom of Lamorde Bittinkoji and the political authorities evolve from 1908 to 2011? What is the impact of municipalization on the influence of the chiefdom in the management of the township's affairs? What are the difficulties encountered by the chiefdom of Bittinkoji vis-à-vis the municipal authorities? These are the main questions that this work attempts to answer.
