Epidemiology

Epidemiology is the science which deals with the study of the distribution and determinants of health related states or events in specified populations and the application of this study to control health problems. Epidemiology used to study the cause of diseases, determine, describe, and report on the natural course of disease, disability, injury, and death, aid in the planning and development of health services and programs and provide administrative and planning data. Epidemiology can be done by the four methods including: public health surveillance, disease investigation, analytic studies and program evaluation. The main objective of this book is to help medical and medical laboratory students to understand the fundamentals of epidemiology. The book covers the topics related to introduction to epidemiology, the epidemiologic triangle, terminologies used in epidemiology, concepts of health, wellness and well-being, health indicators, natural history of disease, dynamic of diseases transmission, types of epidemiology, measurements of disease morbidity and mortality, epidemiology of communicable diseases, epidemiology of non-communicable diseases and disease surveillance.
