English Needs Analysis of Dentistry Students

This book is based on my MA thesis. It investigated the English needs of dentistry students in the Yemeni context where English is taught as a foreign language and ESP. The study elucidated not only the language needs, but also the learning and dentistry-related needs at the present and target situations and the purposes of English use in such situations. Data were collected via questionnaires, structured interviews, and document analysis. The timetable, the registration records of the Faculty of Dentistry in Ibb, the handouts, and the ESP teachers¿ notebooks were scrutinized, too. The data were analyzed statistically and qualitatively. Based on the results, the study provided a list of needs, on the basis of which a framework of an ESP program for dentistry was suggested giving due attention to the language skills as well as job-related needs. It can formulate the first steps to design a needs-based textbook. Also, the study provided laudable recommendations to enhance the quality of English introduced to the students of dentistry.
