Endodontic Mishaps

Endodontic Mishaps can occur at any stage of the root canal treatment right from placement of Rubber dam to the root canal filling and it is old saying that ¿prevention is better than cure¿. Biggest challenge in treating mishap is its detection which is a first step in the management. After detection, correction may be accomplished depending on the type and extent of the procedural accident. The next step is to re-evaluate the prognosis of the involved tooth. This is very essential as it may affect the entire treatment plan and may also involve dentolegal consequences. If a mistake will affect the outcome of the case, the patient must be informed and the mistake must be noted in the record along with a statement that the patient was informed of the mistake and this should be followed as cardinal rule. This book presents an overview of the effect of endodontic procedural errors, such as underfilling, overfilling, separated instruments and root perforations on the outcome of endodontic therapy.
