Digital Obeya Room: Maximizing the Synergy between BIM and Lean

This paper proposes a novel methodology for interdisciplinary management of construction projects by integrating Building Information Modeling (BIM) to Lean philosophy. First, the study presents a qualitative bibliographic review of BIM and Lean methods and tools. Afterwards, the research describes the Digital Obeya Room model for continuous improvement of construction management. Lastly, the work presents four empirical studies within production planning and control of industrial construction projects that evaluate the benefits of the new methodology. This paper contributes to predictability in planning, improved integration among stakeholders, and the increased usage of Lean and BIM for continuous improvement of engineering management.
