Shear wall is a vertical element used to resist lateral forces such as wind and seismic forces act on a building structure. It works as a vertical cantilever beam supported at the ground carrying vertical load together with columns. They are mainly used in tall buildings.There are primarily two arrangements: one is located at the building's edges and can be either planar or flanged in shape. The other is installed inside the structure as core walls or channelsections. These walls are typically located at the centre of high-rise structures, in the form of a core wall system, to accommodate vertical translation systems such as lifts.
