Development of Body Measurements and Basic Blocks for Adolescent Girls

Tailors and seamstresses as well as some fashion designers in Ghana till date depend heavily on taking individual measurements of customers or clients whenever they want to construct a garment. Obviously, it will be difficult to satisfy the demand for clothing with this small scale method of production. There are no conclusive research on average body measurements of Ghanaians and for that matter Africans that can be used in drafting patterns for different categories of persons. It is therefore essential to establish average body measurements and use these measurements in the development of block patterns for early adolescent girls. The study is to further confirm if there are differences in the mean body measurements of the proprietary data obtained from early adolescent girls of ages 12, 13 and 14 in Sekondi-Takoradi compared to those in the Western world.
