Cycloaddition reactions of Azomethine Ylides and their applications

Heterocyclic compounds as a group play a significant role in many life processes and dominate modern organic chemistry. Cycloaddition reaction is one of the most important classes of reactions in organic chemistry with both mechanistic and synthetic interest. 1,3-Dipolar cycloaddition, also known as the Huisgen reaction, is regarded as one of the most attractive methods for the formation of pharmacologically important five membered heterocycles. Azomethine ylides are an important 1,3-dipole which are capable of reacting with a great variety of dipolarophiles and such asymmetric syntheses have a growing importance in pharmaceutical and agricultural industries with respect to preparation of chiral drugs and natural products.
