Creating a Supportive Learning Environment in the L2 Classroom Context

Insights into the field of language teaching enable language educators to futher ponder the role of teaching in second language classrooms. Language teaching is not just the eclecticism of linguistics and pedagogy (Widdowson, 2003). It is a long-term process to achieve professionalism. Expertise can be seen as conscious deliberation and organized knowledge base (Glaser & Chi, 1988) and also expertise is a continuous process (Bereiter & Scardamalia, 1993). In this book, the author, as a teaching practitioner, analyzes how teachers provide supportive learning environment for second language learners. More specifically, three core questions are addressed: How can teachers alleviate learners¿ language anxiety in the L2 classroom? How can teachers foster learners¿ empowerment in the L2 classroom? and How can teachers build up positive self-efficacy through praxis?
