Conflicts Management in Schools

The purpose of this study was to investigate the management of conflict in the selected secondary schools in Tabora municipality. A case study design was employed in this investigation with mixed methodology comprising qualitative and quantitative research approach. The instruments used were questionnaires, interviews, documentary reviews and focus group discussion. The findings indicated that the causes of conflicts in the sampled secondary schools varied and resolution of various forms of conflicts would therefore vary and require specific strategies since the root causes may be unique. Moreover, the findings revealed that the most prevalent conflicts were between teachers and students as well as between students and school administration. Conflicts between school administration and teachers were fewer as were those among teachers and students. The study concluded that heads of schools, students and teachers were not aware of conflict resolution mechanisms in their schools. Most of the schools did not have defined conflict resolution mechanism and the existing ones were not effective. It is recommended that local education authorities need to organize seminars and workshops
