Competency-based approach

This article provides a brief introduction to competency-based learning. Competency-based learning (CBL) allows learners to progress based on their ability to master a skill or competency at their own pace, regardless of the environment. This method accommodates different learning abilities and can lead to more effective outcomes for students. This is because it puts a focus on learning outcomes, regardless of where and how they are acquired. Students must become active learners as teachers assume their new role as facilitators. Materials must be authentic and task-related. Assessments must focus more on providing information about a student's progress than on providing a grade for an assignment. Finally, what matters is that each student is able to master one skill before they can move on to the next.
