Comparative Analysis of Competition Law in the Nigerian Power Sector

This book is a comparative research which considered three different jurisdictions with respect to regulation of power sector using Competition Law.The author examined the concept of competition law, its general principles, functions and relevance in jurisdictions such as the U. S. A. and South Africa and how it has helped in opening up most sectors of their economy in terms of growth and healthy competition among the sectoral stakeholders but with a major focus on the electricity sector.The work further anatomized the futile attempts Nigeria has made in having a competition law regime and the effect of the absence of a competition legal framework in a germane sector such as the Power (energy) sector. The work further appraised the helplessness of the Nigerian economy in the absence of this vital law. The researcher provided a major missing rib to the Nigerian Power sector reform which has been ongoing in the past 12 years.The major research findings of this work were drawn from the American and South African Antitrust legal regimes that Competition Law be applied to the Nigerian economy. The work ends with series of findings and recommendations geared towards enriching the sector.
