Community Irrigation: Food Security Enhancing Poverty Reduction

Zimbabwe¿s Communal Areas livelihoods challenges and their amelioration are not well understood because they are documented from externalist views. The definition of poverty has been elusive as such the sustainable mitigation measures are often not appropriate to ensure communities are empowered to transform their economy. This research-based book in simple lucid language serves as a text book for undergraduate and rural development practitioners particularly in semi-arid areas that suffer water shortage in their agriculture production systems under severe climate change challenges. Group irrigation is a diversified strategy to achieve food security and poverty reduction beyond household level. Gender views of feminising poverty and food insecurity are understood in the context of challenges and sustainability of communal irrigation infrastructure.
