Colorectal cancer screening

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer death, and accounts for approximately 9% of cancer deaths overall. In Saudi Arabia, CRC accounting for 9.9 % of all newly diagnosed cases. This book comprises an adopted cross-sectional comparative study. including all PHC physicians working in the PHC centers of the MOH in Jeddah, at the period of the study, 2012. A validated self-administrated questionnaire has been used for data collection. The questionnaire consists of main three parts; Recommendations for CRC screening, CRC screening performance and follow up, and Practice and personal characteristics. The study included 106 PHC physicians out of 127 invited to participate in the study, giving a response rate of 83.5%. The majority of the physicians (91; 86.7%) recommended Fecal occult blood test (FOBT) for CRC screening while Flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy abd double contrast barium enema were recommended by (56; 53.3%), (73; 68.9%) and only 23 physicians (21.7%), respectively. Slightly more than half of the physicians reported that they have ordered or performed FOBT to screen for CRC. Thus knowledge and a positive attitude toward FOBT is high.
