Colon targeted tablets containing prednisolone solid dispersion

From the last few decades, a great deal of research work has been devoted to the development of the site specific drug delivery system which offers several benefits over the traditional drug treatments. The principle goal of the site specific delivery is to deliver the drug to the specific organs of the body so, colonic drug delivery has gained increased importance not just for the delivery of the drugs for the treatment of local diseases of the colon but also for the systemic delivery of proteins, therapeutic peptides, anti-asthmatic drugs, anti-diabetic agents and antihypertensive drugs The aim of this work is to prepare and evaluate colon targeted tablets containing Prednisolone solid dispersions. Since solid dispersion technique can be used to enhance prednisolone solubility so this may lead to enhance its poor water solubility and then formulating these solid dispersions into tablets and target the release to colon by using pH- dependent system in order to have drug working at the site of disease (colon disease) this reducing the dose, frequency and some systemic side effect.
