Code-Switching in Kuwaiti University: A Sociolinguistics Approach

The book seeks to highlight the scope of using CS in Kuwait University Colleges and PAAET on the part of staff members and students. CS is a linguistic phenomenon in the sub-branch of Sociolinguistics. The research is descriptive, analytic, critical and objective. The researcher describes and criticizes the two schools, pro and against the use of CS.CS is a controversial issue that goes deep into the context of the society and the educational system in Kuwait. It is part and parcel of the thorny problems of teaching. The researchers and scholars are divided into two sections: pro and against. Each team has his own incentives and impulses. The supporting team regards it as a teaching strategy. Therefore, it is a vital remedy to the weak level students, while the other team is of the opinion that it destroys the perfection process of the target language TL. This, in turn, affects performance and competence. The book is empirical in the sense that it applies three questionnaires to staff members and students to live the situation on realistic and practical basis. The linguistic background in Kuwait affects the teaching process due to the fact that Kuwait is a multicultural society.
