The term "cheerleading" refers to the performance of athletic skills, involving dances and complex tricks, to gain a response from spectators, motivating them and promoting enthusiasm before and during a sports competition. Amongst the most well known people involved in cheerleading were American presidents George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Franklin D Roosevelt, as well as singer Madonna, actresses Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock and actors Michael Douglas and Samuel L. Jackson. Today, it is believed that there are at least 4 million cheerleaders in 31 countries, the most popular sport for cheerleading being football.
