Anthropometry in Childhood Nehrotic Sindrome

Nephrotic syndrome is a common disease in children with deleterious effects on the child¿s growth and development. Primarily a manifestation of glomerular disease, it is 15 times more common in children than adults, and is characterized by,1. nephrotic range proteinuria (defined as protein excretion of > 40 mg/m2/hr or a first morning protein : creatinine ratio of >2-3 : 1.) , and2. the triad of clinical findings associated with large urinary losses of protein: hypoalbuminemia (<2.5gm/dl), edema, and hyperlipidemia. Most children with nephrotic syndrome have a form of primary or idiopathic nephrotic syndrome. The Glomerular lesions associated with idiopathic nephrotic syndrome include minimal change disease (the most common), focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, membranous nephropathy, and diffuse mesangialproliferation .This study was done in the In-patient ward and Out-patient department, Department of Pediatric Medicine, Burdwan Medical College and Hospital, West Bengal among children admitted with Nephrotic syndrome in In-patient wards, and follow¿up cases of nephrotic syndrome attending pediatric outdoors and fulfilling inclusion.
