AD IS MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE

Audiodescription (AD) is an umbrella term for those services that make different visual media accessible to people with visual disabilities (visually impaired and blind). Although today it is a widespread practice in many sectors, cinema, theatre, sport and museums, its development has not been linear and homogeneous. To this end, research has been carried out on its theoretical and procedural aspects with particular attention to AD in museums, enriched by theoretical studies on translation. In this way, a bridge connecting these two worlds has been created. On the basis of these acquisitions, the main objective of this volume is to provide a general overview of the current status of AD and, at the same time, to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of two methods of creating AD in museums: the first is the standard method, with texts created from scratch in Italian, the second is the method that uses the translation of the original scripts, in this case from Chinese to Italian. These methods have been applied for works selected by two important museums, the National Palace Museum in Taipei and the Hong Kong Museum of Art in Hong Kong.
