A privacy aware vehicle probe information coding for road traffic

This work addresses the idea of privacy in the context of Probe Vehicles Data (PVD also called Floating Car Data). Even though the PVD data privacy is protected by regulations and standardizations, which impose encryption of messages when collected by the road operators or interest groups, this cannot protect entirely the drivers of the probe vehicles against attackers. The motivation behind this work is related to the fact that the emerge of cooperative systems will equip private-owned vehicles with systems that will transmit data to the roadside units such as the case of the PVD¿s. This will pose major risk for the drivers, because disclosing the transmitted data, may reveal detailed location over time including home, work locations, etc, driving speed and behavior.
