A KIPP-based leadership competency model for Estonia

School leadership has a crucial role in implementing change and making innovation sustainable in the 21. century school system. Research about school leadership in Estonia implies that principals in Estonia are mostly administrators and managers. For sustainable improvements in the current school system a different set of competencies and practices are required ¿ especially instructional leadership and vision. The book will give an overview of one efficient school leadership competency model used in KIPP schools in the USA, and following the design research principles, a KIPP-based model is designed for school leaders in Estonia. The aim is to list the design principles to help school leaders analyse their current leadership practices and competencies and plan future development towards improved school environment and learner centeredness. The school leadership competency model consists of five principles ¿ in the focus of the model there is the learner with his individuality. The new model should be implemented on all levels of leadership at school and one of the crucial requirements for the implementation is leading a smaller school or a school level.
