A Banker for the Weaker Sections: (A Case Study)

Rural development generally refers to the process of improving the quality of life and economic well-being of the rural poor. It can be achieved only through upliftment of village folk consisting of farmers, agricultural labourers, artisans etc. In order to bring about the overall development in the rural livelihood, assistance of institutional credit to the rural poor is very much essential. The branch-wise performance analysis reveals that the branches those have higher level of efficiency, larger percentage of lending to priority sector to total advances, experienced high level of profitability and vice versa and the larger level of bank size, higher percentage of officers to total employees, higher degree of revenue diversity and higher level of total factor productivity change leads a branch to be more efficient and vice versa.
