As the reader\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eshould expect of a work deeply concerned with religious matters, John Milton also is one of\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe poets whose works are frequently being referred to throughout ¿Ulysses¿. While the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epoems ¿Paradise Lost¿ and ¿Paradise Regained¿ (to a lesser degree also ¿Samson Agonistes¿)\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eare those among Milton¿s poems which are used the most by Joyce, the poem ¿Lycidas¿ plays\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ea central role in the 2nd chapter.
