The first two\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003echapters will analyze Germany¿s and France¿s railroad systems from their\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eearly starts until the beginning of the First World War in a compressed way.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn the following step, the fourth chapter, both systems will be compared and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003econtrasted to each other. It¿s intended to show similarities and differences. A\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003erailway network can in general be regarded as a mirror of its national\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eeconomy. A sustainable growth in a country¿s economy can hardly fail to\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ebenefit its railroads. In the 19th century Germany¿s railroads benefitted from a\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eboosting economy whereas the French economy did not take into the same\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003edirection. This had remarkable effects on the commerce via rail and the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eFrench railroad network in total.1\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis study will not compare the years after 1914 when the railways where\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eprimarily used to lead to the front. Each country¿s economy and its inner\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epolitical movements had comparatively minor effects in contrast to the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003emilitary strategies and decisions.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA major challenge will be undoubtedly to fit all the necessary complexity into\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ea single format. Therefore all comparisons shall be divided into three different\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003easpects. At first the administrations of France and Germany shall be put\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eopposite to each other starting with the railroads early years until the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ebeginning of the 20th century. Additionally the two countries¿ economies and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003etheir effects on the railroad construction will be analyzed. At last the military\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003estrategies will be examined, for example during the Franco-Prussian War and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe remaining pre-war times.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn the 5th chapter current railroad issues of the two countries will be regarded.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMutual interests, alliances, but also rivalries and conflicts are a constant part\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ein the history of two railroad networks, even to this day.
