On the other hand, a direct\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecomparison between the German influences will be made, and hopefully it will prove\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethat even though half the globe separates both continents from each other, there are\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esimilarities to be found. It is to be expected though, that if there are analogies, they\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ewill be regionally restricted, since both in the United States and in Australia, contact\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esituations seem to be restricted to those areas where Germans settled from the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eearliest days on.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBeside the clarification of some general definitions, which will prove necessary for an\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eunderstandable analysis, the difficulties in researching this topic will be made evident.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOne thing that will not be considered in this examination is the influence of Yiddish-\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eGerman on American English since, one the one hand, it proves hard to differentiate\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eexactly between the German and the Yiddish aspects and on the other hand because\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe Jewish impact on Australian English is marginal.
