The main focus thereby lies on the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ealgorithms for polarization control and carrier\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003erecovery. But also clock recovery, intermediate\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003efrequency control and compensation of intersymbol\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003einterference are considered. The performance of the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ealgorithms is studied in extensive simulations.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAdditionally the results of the real-time\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eimplementation of selected algorithms in a single\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epolarization and a polarization-multiplexed\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esynchronous optical QPSK transmission system are\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epresented.
