This study aims to apply the hub-andspoke\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esystem to the agricultural transportation and distribution networks of Thai agricultural\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eproducts in order to reduce transportation costs and to investigate the location of facilities\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ewithin the shrimp industry by varying parameters. Hubs serve as collection and switching\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epoints in the system and transportation flows will be consolidated in the hub links. The\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003econcentration in the hub network leads to economies of scale, and for this reason the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003etransportation cost rate will be reduced. In the study, central markets for shrimp are referred\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eto as hubs. The hub location models are divided in uncapacitated hub location models and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ehub location models with minimal capacity. These models are stated as an integer linear\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eprogramming models. The objective functions of both models are identical. They include the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecosts of direct and indirect transportation as well as the construction costs of hubs. While\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eevaluating transportation costs, the opportunity cost reflected in the perishable nature of the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eagricultural products is accounted for as well. The rates of the opportunity cost are calculated\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eas the difference between averaging shrimp prices of direct trade with the factory and trade\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ewithin shrimp markets. The difference of the two models lies in the constraints of minimal\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecapacity. To solve the hub location problems, the sum of the costs is optimized through a\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003egenetic algorithm.
