This has engendered a closer look at artists, \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ewhose works cover multiple disciplines or media, and refer to works from literature to visual \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003earts. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis for instance applies to the work of Stellan Mörner, who as a member of the Halmstad \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eGroup, has mainly been thought of as a painter so far. Though he is the author of two \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esurrealistic novels. Both of them, Timmarna innan (1948) and Resa med flaggstång (1956), \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eimply aspects of intertextuality and intermediality. This perfectly describes the main focus of \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe present thesis. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eHere, two analyses will try to answer the following question: What is the purpose for the \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esurrealist Stellan Mörner in using intertextuality and intermediality in his novels and how \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003edoes it help him develop his poetics? In this context it is important to point out that he \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003edistanced himself from Breton¿s approach of Automatic writing. In fact he adopted the \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eParanoiac-critical method Dalí exposed in his theories. \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSince the novels enclose autobiographical tendencies, Mörner establishes a relationship \u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ebetween his biography and his intertextual and intermedial works.
