Most\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eof them are finding that a good way to gain such an advantage is through the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecomplex process of going global. By doing so, enterprises can extend their\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eproduct lines to other countries and cultures. They can also save money on\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003elabour costs by taking advantage of the lower standard of living in some\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecountries. Global expansion enables a company to add value by transferring\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecore skills overseas, using global volume to cover product development costs,\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003erealizing economies of scale from global volume, and configuring value-creation\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003efunctions in locations where value added is maximized. Companies pursuing\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eglobal strategies can gain cost economies by integrating manufacturing,\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003emarketing, and competitive strategies across national boundaries, but they must\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003egive up a certain degree of responsiveness to national conditions.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis study looks at the strategies companies adopt when they expand outside\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003etheir domestic marketplace and start to compete on a global basis.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe first chapter starts with a discussion how global expansion creates\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eimportant values for companies.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe second chapter examines different strategies which companies can pursue\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ein the global arena. These four different strategies are reviewed in detail - the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003einternational strategy, the multidomestic strategy, the global strategy, and last\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ebut not least the transnational strategy. Furthermore the pros and cons of each\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eof these strategies are debated. In addition the link between the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eappropriateness of different strategies and the pressures of cost reductions and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003elocal responsiveness is made.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn the next section the various basic options a company has for entering a\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eforeign market - exporting, licensing, strategic alliances, joint ventures,\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003efranchising, turnkey projects, foreign direct investment, acquisitions and the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eestablishment of a wholly owned subsidiary as well as e-Commerce - are\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ereviewed in detail.
