Value co-creation, as the collective action of individuals to develop\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003evalue together, can enable SEs to access the resources that they need to survive, create\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecompetitive advantages, and improve their sustainability and performance. Online\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecommunities (OCs) enable independent and like-minded individuals to co-create value through\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecollaboration and resource integration in a cost-effective way. Although extant research has\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003estudied value co-creation through OCs from different individuals` perspectives in different\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003econtexts, little is known about how values are co-created and what values are co-created as the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecollective action of social entrepreneurs (as the end-users) with each other in OCs. It\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003especifically remains unclear what motivates social entrepreneurs to participate in OCs, what\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003efactors might inhibit them from engaging in OCs, and what essential abilities they need to have\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eto be able to effectively participate in OCs.
