This is\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ean increase of 83 percent from 2012-13 (ABS, 2016), virtually eliminating some of the social\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eand geographic barriers historically isolating many families. Electronic social networks can\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003enow transmit social support traditionally only offered in face-to-face encounters (Bambina,\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e2007). In fact, an ethnographic turn is occurring whereby virtual communities are forming\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eonline (Rouleau, de Rond, \u0026amp; Musca, 2014), as socially isolated parents living in urban\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecommunities too (Drentea \u0026amp; Moren¿Cross, 2005) are turning to the internet to connect with\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eothers. This shift to virtual ethnographies (Rouleau, de Rond, \u0026amp; Musca, 2014) introduces new\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecommunication media for and barriers to the effective exchange and provisions of social and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003einformational support (Doty \u0026amp; Dworkin, 2014) via online access.
