For these minimum systems a thorough\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003estability analysis is carried out using a\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eperturbation technique.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eParametric excitation may lead to a coupling of just\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003etwo modes of a vibrating system, while the remaining\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003emodes are not affected. This coupling enables to\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003etransfer energy between modes and its subsequent\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003emitigation. The results demonstrate that parametric\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eexcitation can be employed to extend significantly\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe area of stability in the parameter space of the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003esystem parameters. The proposed method shows\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epotential in practical applications when a\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003edestabilization due to self-excitation occurs or when\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe damping of weakly damped systems shall be\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eenhanced.
