The book is based on research findings that postulate, that, when loanwords enter a recipient language, in this case Ateso, they are made to conform to the recipient language phonological system by going through some phonological and morphological processes. This book methodically describes the phoneme inventories of the three languages above, and then goes on to discuss phonological and phonotactic possibilities of each of the languages in discussing the borrowing phenomenon. The findings of this book will hopefully break new ground on studies in loanword phonology.

loanword adaptation in Ateso
