Introduction\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eArmenian¿Turkish relations have been strained by a number of historical\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eand political issues and the current status of this relations can traced back to\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe last moments of the Ottoman Empire and to be more specific to the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003emassacres on the Armenians living in this empire.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAccording to available historical records and depending on the point of view,\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ebetween 1915 and 1923, more between 300.000 and more than one million\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eArmenians were killed by the Ottoman authorities. In the last years Armenia\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eand its diaspora has campaigned heavily for international recognition of the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ekillings. The modern Turkish state, the successor states of the Ottoman\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEmpire, has repeatedly and heavily refused to acknowledge the Armenian\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003einterpretation of events. The Turkish government insists that the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecircumstances and the actually happening in this period of time were\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003edifferent and less horrific than the Armenian version is telling.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eMost recently the bilateral relations between Armenia and Turkey took\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eanother serious nosedive in the wake of the war between Armenia and\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAzerbaijan at the beginning of the 1990s. As a loyal supporter of the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAzerbaijan Turkey froze its diplomatic relations with Armenia and closed its\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecommon border. These two historical events and their consequences strain\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethe relationship between the two neighboring states, which still have no\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eformal diplomatic relation and Recent attempts of the international\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecommunity to normalize the relations failed.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn this submitted term paper the historical development of the relationship\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ebetween Armenia and Turkey supposed to be shown, whereas a special\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eemphasis is put on the massacre on the Armenians in 1914\/1915 and the\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003econflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. These two events play a crucial and decisive\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ekey role in Turkish-Armenian relations and are therefore considered\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eseparately.
