Shopping activity works as a coping mechanism that generates\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ehappiness in short-run (Hama, 2001; Kang, 2009; Atalay \u0026amp; Meloy, 2011), and enhances\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003epsychological well-being in the long-run (Kang \u0026amp; Johnson, 2011). Different types of\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003etherapeutic benefits offered by shopping include- distraction, escape, indulgence,\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003erelaxation, sensory stimulation, social connection etc. (Luomala, 2002; Lee, 2013).\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAs per the existing literature and based on the survey reports of various expert\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eagencies' websites (e.g. ebates.com, dendyneville.co.uk, addictionexperts.co.uk,\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ecreditkarma.com, etc.), it has been found that the usage of shopping for therapeutic\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ereasons is more common in western countries like U.S. and U.K. This is mainly because\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eof the developed retail market in these countries, which offers wider product choice to\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eshoppers as well as gives them an entertaining and pleasurable shopping environment\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e(McVeigh, 2000). However, the adoption of retail therapy in less developed or\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003edeveloping countries, has so far, not been much acknowledged. The research in this\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003efield has also been limited in these countries. The present study has been an effort in\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ethis direction.
