Motivation theories have been developed for health  educators attending to Type II diabetics to aid in  promoting healthy dietary and physical activity  practices, however, this approach has not been  welcome in most diabetic clinics. There was a  crucial need to empirically develop a Mental Health  Tailored Communicaion Model that could be used to  effectively promote healthy dietary and physical  activity behaviours among Type II diabetics in  Kenya. This model was built on the Theory of Planned Behaviour (Ajzen, 1991) as a foundational framework and creative improvement made using health belief  concepts (Glanz et al.,2002) and other important post-intentional factors (Falko, 2005).
